We are moms and we are busy. Between caring for our kids, partners, friends, family, co-workers, bosses, and whoever else seems to cross our paths, it seems that we rarely make the time to care for ourselves. If you are anything like me, you find excuses as to why you don’t have time for you and why there are just so many other more important things to do with your time. A free moment in your day may consist of getting some laundry done, making an important phone call, or doing one of your many chores. You are constantly finding ways to multi-task and fit as much into one single day as possible. Quite simply, you are superwoman.

We are constantly hearing about how important it is to take time away from our busy schedules to relax and do the things that we enjoy. As I listen to women around me respond to this, the answer is usually the same. “I don’t have time.” As mothers, we seem to be the most caring and selfless individuals on the planet. Once you become a mom it is almost like you somehow have the ability to take care of the entire world. It’s an amazing quality of superhero proportions. While we are so busy with everyone else though, it is so important that we stop to realize the effect we are having on ourselves. It is also essential that we truly evaluate if we are putting our best self out into the world.

Isn’t self-care essential for us to feel and be at our best?

I recently decided to take a mental health day and check out of my life for a full 24 hours. I can tell you that I had no idea how badly I needed this until I actually began my solitude. I could all of a sudden literally feel the ball of stress that I had become. It took me hours to unwind and completely relax. I could not believe I had been naively walking around in this state of being for who knows how long. I wondered how my interactions with the world had been effected and also wondered how my own health and well-being had been effected. It had been to long since I had devoted time to me. I had been neglected.

As I finally made my way to a state of relaxation I was reminded of all the truths I know to be true.
1. I am most important and need to place myself first on my list.
2. I cannot love others unless I truly love myself.
3. I am a better human being when I am full of joy and peace.
4. My way to joy and peace is through self-love and self-care.
5. The people that love me will support my desire to put myself first and understand the importance of me caring for me.
6. It is okay that everything in my life is not perfect.
7. Most importantly, I am awesome!

These truths are true for me, and each and every one of you.

It is time for you to check out. Time for you to exercise your superwoman powers and create space in your life for self-care and self-love. I know you can do it, and once you do, you and everyone around you will be happy you did!!!
